Most YouTube advice sounds simple:
“Upload at 6 PM.”
“Upload at 7 PM.”
“Post when your audience is online.”
But after spending years watching creators, running channels, and observing how different types of content perform, I’ve come to a different conclusion.
There is no single best upload time for every channel.
A gaming channel, a finance channel, a gardening channel and a travel vlog all attract different audiences. The habits of those viewers are not the same.
Recently, while planning uploads for my own channel, I found myself choosing between two very different times:
- 10:00 AM
- 7:00 PM
On paper, 7:00 PM seems like the obvious winner. Most people are home from work. Phones are in their hands. Families are settling down for the evening.
Yet I kept leaning towards 10:00 AM.
The more I thought about it, the more it made sense.
Why Most Creators Choose Evening Uploads
The logic is straightforward.
People are generally free after work and school. As a result, YouTube traffic tends to increase during the evening hours.
Typical recommendations look like this:
For entertainment-focused content, that recommendation often works well.
The problem is that not every channel is an entertainment channel.
Not All Audiences Behave the Same
Let’s compare a few content categories.
| Channel Type | Likely Viewing Pattern |
|---|---|
| Gaming | Afternoon and evening |
| Comedy | Evening |
| News | Morning and evening |
| Gardening | Morning, weekends, breaks |
| Home Decor | Morning and afternoon |
| DIY Projects | Throughout the day |
| Travel | Weekends and evenings |
My own content falls mostly into:
- Gardening
- Home decor
- DIY projects
- Travel
- Creative living
That audience behaves very differently from a gaming audience.
The Hidden Advantage of 10 AM
A video uploaded at 10 AM gets an entire day to find its audience.
Think about it.
If you upload at 10 AM:
- Morning viewers can watch.
- Lunch-break viewers can watch.
- Afternoon viewers can watch.
- Evening viewers can watch.
The video has roughly twelve additional hours to accumulate impressions before midnight.
A 7 PM upload starts much later.
Many creators focus only on immediate views.
YouTube, however, often cares more about how viewers respond over time.
Competition Matters Too
Another factor is competition.
Thousands of creators upload during the evening.
Far fewer upload during the late morning.
That doesn’t automatically mean you’ll get more views at 10 AM, but it does mean you’re entering a less crowded environment.
What I Would Recommend for Small Lifestyle Channels
If your channel focuses on:
- Gardening
- Home decor
- Creative projects
- DIY
- Crafts
- Everyday life
I would seriously consider testing morning uploads.
For a small creator, consistency matters more than perfection.
My Choice
After considering both options, I chose 10:00 AM.
Not because it is magically better.
Not because some study proved it.
But because it fits the audience I want to reach.
People who enjoy plants, home projects, travel stories and creative living often consume content differently from people watching gaming highlights or viral entertainment.
Sometimes the best strategy isn’t following what everyone else does.
Sometimes it’s understanding who you’re actually creating for.
And for now, 10:00 AM feels like the right place to start.
